Signs Your Pet Has Allergies
Just like humans, pets get allergies, too. They may display the same types of symptoms that humans do, like having an irritation of the skin or a rash, but there are different types of allergies your pet can have. If your pet is showing a dermatologic reaction that you think is due to an allergic reaction, call your Richmond vet at Kindred Care Pet Hospital for treatment.
Skin Allergies
Skin allergies are the most common and can be caused by fleas, food, and the environment. Some pets can have an allergic reaction to flea bites. They may be itchy, especially at the base of their tail, get a rash, and their skin may become scabbed. Some pets may also get seasonal allergies, having a reaction to dust, pollen, and mold. The skin around their paws, ears, and other parts of their body may become irritated. With food allergies, the reaction is similar to seasonal allergies, but they may also have gastrointestinal symptoms. Skin allergies may cause a secondary infection due to scratching, biting, and licking the irritated area. This may open up the skin to yeast and bacterial infection and may need treatment from your Richmond vet.
